Proxy Access and the $10 Million Report
Early January typically means snow, cold and fine tuning our reporting data via Research in View (RiV). Like previous years, Debby Lewis in PD&E requests your 2013 Extension activities be entered in RiV by January 15. What you report informs our Federal Report to USDA. In fact, every bit of data shared with USDA (Federal Report) originates from the RiV ‘Extension Teaching’ section. So, if you aren’t capturing the essence of your work here, the partner who is funding about a third of your salary has no idea you exist and that is not good. While we can’t do much about the weather, we surely can affect how we report our efforts. To ensure your reporting for 2013 is complete, please spend a little extra time before the January 15 deadline if necessary. If you know you can do better with RiV in 2014, please resolve to do so. If you need help, please let me know. The federal portion of your salary and benefits depends on it.
Also, like previous years, we’ll be compiling a brief CD Accountability Report to highlight our accomplishments. Instead of collecting key efforts via the short web-based questionnaire used in the past, this year I’d like to try pulling info that you have entered in RiV (hopefully saving you from the dreaded ‘double-reporting’). For me to pull info, I will need ‘proxy’ access to your RiV. Those that have provided proxy access to date include: Blaine, Bond, Bowen, Bowling, Civittolo, Heimlich, Lucente, Merkowitz, Moss, Moon, Nesbitt, Raison and Romich. If you have not provided proxy access, you can do so easily by logging into RiV, then clicking on ‘MY ACCOUNT’ at the top. Click on the ‘+’ to add proxies. To ensure your accomplishments become a part of the overall Accountability Report, please make the proxy change to your RiV account by January 15.
Additional Helpful Info for RiV Reporting
The “OSU Extension RiV Quick Start Guide,” which has 25 tips to help you use the NON-DOSSIER Extension section of RiV, is posted at: go.osu.edu/OSUErivHelp. Review the section on GOALS. You will be able to access recordings of RiV training CarmenConnect sessions at that link as well. Two of the recordings have bookmarks so you can skip around to the part you are interested in viewing.
If you have questions about RiV and how to record your work with OSU Extension, please contact Debby Lewis (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Kim Showalter (email@example.com). If you are having technical difficulties with RiV (e.g., your profile is not accessible), please use the firstname.lastname@example.org email address to send a message to the RiV team.
How do you report your social media and/or tech use in your work? While there are still no official step-by-step guidelines on how to do this in RiV, there is helpful information on where to report most tech-related work in RiV, as well as suggestions on what should be reported. Check out this post on the EdgeU Tech blog for more information: Reporting Your Good [Tech] Work: Facebook Impact.

To view the many upcoming workshops offered by the Office of Distance Education and eLearning (ODEE), visit: odee.osu.edu/resourcecenter/workshops. January workshops include using U.OSU.EDU for individuals and groups and all those being held during Digital Discovery Days (see below).
Digital Discovery Days will be held January 13 – 17 at the Columbus campus. It is a marathon of workshops, presentations and meetups covering all things digital. Discover multimedia programs, investigate trends like wearable tech, and meet up with experts from MOOC instructors to grant writers who can help bring your digital dreams to life. The sessions are shorter than the typical Digital Union workshop, covering the information that's most valuable for the attendees. These mini-events are scheduled thematically, so look into subsequent sessions. You might want to attend two or more in a row. This format makes the most of your time and provides a wide variety of learning topics to engage with.
