AD Update:

Campus Campaign wraps up April 30

Bruce McPheron, V-P for Ag Administration and Dean of CFAES, indicated that as of last week the participation rate in this year’s Campus Campaign by FAES employees (which includes you) was 28%. This is an increase from 24% two weeks earlier. By the end of this year’s push (April 30) Bruce challenged us FAES employees to reach a 30% participation rate; a difference of 41 additional contributors to the Campus Campaign. You may have also noticed a recent note from Amy Fovargue and Chris Igodan (Extension’s representatives to the Campus Campaign) that reported increasing participation rates in Extension as well. And a few weeks ago our very own Brian Raison emerged as CD’s unofficial Campus Campaign representative cheering us on to greatness (nice work, Brian). Clearly, there is a lot of excitement and momentum surrounding this latest capital campaign. It’s the largest effort in OSU’s history with a $2.5 billion goal. It is an ambitious goal, yet each and every contribution makes it attainable.

As an employee, you can contribute through payroll deduction. You can also make a one-time gift via cash, check, or credit card. To learn more about how to participate, please go here.

If you plan to contribute or were considering participating in this fundraising effort, please consider contributing to the Community Development Support Fund. Dollars from this fund support the annual Excellence in Community Development Award. If you have already contributed to this or other funds, your support is very much appreciated. As you are well aware, as traditional funding streams have decreased, our efforts have been sustained via growing ‘other’ funding like this.

And speaking of goals and cheering us on, the development office reported that CD needs just 2 more contributors to surpass the 30% rate. Go team!

OSU Climate Change Webinar Series continues April 30:

The OSU Climate Change webinar series continues on Tuesday, April 30, from noon to 1 p.m. with “A Study in Collaboration: The Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts," presented by Dan Vimont and David Liebl of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They will discuss organizing for stakeholder engagement, challenges in managing the climate adaptation dialog, and successes in advancing regional adaptation. The webinar is free. The Changing Face of the Organization: Millennials in the Workplace - Online Seminar May 21:

Millennials were born between 1980 and 2000, and this generation is almost as large as the Baby Boomers. An achievement-oriented group, these new employees are technologically connected 24/7 and use social networking to connect with their peers. Members of this high-achieving generation want to immediately make an impact in their careers and are anxious to take on leadership roles.

  • Learn about the culture and events that have shaped the Millennial Generation.
  • Determine ways to improve communication and build relationships with this generation.
  • Generate ideas about how to manage and coach this generation of employees.

Financial Education Programs Training - May 23:

The Healthy Finance Team will present an in-service on May 23 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Ag Admin Auditorium to highlight some of their most effective financial education programs and give you the tools to implement them in your county/area. Cost is $25 (lunch and materials included). Register here by May 15. Featured Programs Include:

  • Using the Homebuyer’s Guide - Want to know how to help participants through the hurdles of homeownership?  Find out how to figure the need is in your community and implement successful homeownership classes. Presented by Nancy Stehulak.

  • Comments from the Attorney General’s Office - Ohio's consumer laws will protect you from the savviest scam artists… if only you knew what they were! The Attorney General's office receives more than 25,000 consumer complaints each year. Find out the top ten complaint categories and learn how you and your consumers can prevent fraud. Presented by Rachael Wummer.

  • Promotion Web Conference - June 14:
    Greg Davis will lead a web conference for CD professionals who are on promotion track or who have an interest in being on promotion track. The meeting will be held on June 14 at 3:00 p.m. Details, including the link to the meeting room, will be announced at the end of May.
  • CD Invited to ANR Summer Organization Meeting OARDC Tour – June 27:
    The OSUE ANR 3rd Annual Summer Organization Meeting will be held on June 27-28 at OARDC in Wooster. They are inviting you, their CD counterparts, to join them on the 27th for tours of OARDC. More details will follow soon.

    Given that this is the day after our summer unit meeting in Harrison County (we have invited our ANR colleagues to join us for those tours), you might want to make arrangements to stay overnight on the 26th somewhere between the two locations. The CD chat page would be a good place to find others who are interested in a ride share and/or staying for the ANR events.

CD Spring Unit Meeting Mileage Charges:

When completing your April mileage logs, remember to charge your mileage for the April 3 CD unit meeting to: Org - 55120; Fund - 530801; Account - 63401; User Defined - QTR113. Include it along with your other mileage for the month, but separate the chartfields at the top of the mileage log as well as at the bottom of the eRequest. County Commissioners 2013 Roster now Available:

Gwen Wolford, Director of Government Relations for CFAES, has provided us with several copies of the 2013 County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO) Roster book. Please let Sandy know if you would like to have one, and she will send it via inter-campus or county mail.

New 'Responsible Use of University Computing and Network Resources' Policy:

The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) periodically updates its policies to keep pace with the constantly changing IT landscape. Following the university policy process, they have recently updated the Responsible Use of University Computing and Network Resources policy, which defines accepted and ethical practices in the use of technology consistent with Ohio State's mission and values. The policy was revised to comply with updated federal and state regulations, university policies, rules and procedures. Changes were also made for clarity, so staff and employees can understand the policy more easily. Click here to view the updated policy.

CFAES Staff Advisory Council Staff Professional Development Award Applications due May 28:

Do you need assistance to offset costs associated with professional development and staff career goals? This award can be used toward expenses of up to $200. The CFAES Staff Advisory Council (SAC) is now accepting applications for their staff professional development award. Click here for the application form and guidelines.
