AD Update:
Key Dates and Key Reports
A quick check found that roughly one-third of these weekly posts since late 2010 have discussed funding. Every post mentions dates. Funding keeps us in business and you employed. Dates keep us on time and in the places we need to be when we need to be in them. January 15 and $10 million in the same posting refers to Research in View (RiV) annual reporting and federal funding. You should be aware that Debby Lewis in PD&E requests your 2012 extension activities be entered in RiV by January 15. What you may not know is that OSUE’s federal ‘formula’ funding (approximately $10 million according to Debby) is directly tied to OSUE’s federal report of results provided to USDA. Bottom line: Your reporting informs this report of results. Please contribute. The federal portion of your salary and benefits depends on it.
What you report is also used to help inform performance planning, management, and evaluation. Similar to OSU:pro used in the past, RiV enables you to document your accomplishments as well as your goals and progress for your performance and professional development. Two reports can be generated from RiV’s ‘DOCUMENTS’ tab; a Dossier Report and Extension Annual Report. NOTE: When you think ‘annual,’ think calendar year for Educators; think state fiscal year – July through June – for Program Staff and Specialists. So, while you ensure your accomplishments are entered in RiV on a calendar year basis for Debby and the federal report, program staff and specialists will also want to ensure they have an up-to-date RiV on a July through June basis as well.
Also, like last year, we’ll be compiling a brief CD Accountability Report to highlight our accomplishments. Look for the short web-based questionnaire this week and keep your RiV reports handy to aid in its completion.
In short, documenting your plans, goals, and accomplishments is important. No matter your position, be sure you have reported your work for 2012 in RiV by January 15 for Debby (generating a report for her is not necessary). If you are an educator, generate and send a Dossier Report and Extension Annual Report to your supervisor by January 15. If you are a program staff member or specialist, plan to generate and send a Dossier Report and Extension Annual Report to your supervisor after June 30. If you have questions or concerns, please let me know. Beyond this, whatever you might want to send me and whenever you send it will serve as a much appreciated informational ‘update’ to help me better support you.

The OSU CARES grants, under the leadership of OSU Extension, support partnerships between OSU Extension and other departments at Ohio State. These grants have provided seed dollars for a number of well-established programs throughout Ohio and give great opportunity for many of our OSU Extension teams to strengthen programming. The submission deadline for all three grants programs is Friday, March 8, at 4:00 pm. Visit outreachgrants.osu.edu to access the RFPs and more information on each grant. An informational session will be held Tuesday, January 22, at 12:15 p.m. in 385 Bricker Hall.
