AD Update:

Extension Annual Meetings Recap
Last week’s association meetings and annual conference enabled us to pause and recognize our individual, team, and organizational accomplishments. By design, these annual events take us from our offices and our work, freeing us from the distractions of our daily routines so we are better able to reflect on and celebrate our successes. These events remind us of the variety of research, teaching, and service contributions that are being made. In many cases, this is where you may learn new things about colleagues, their work, or other information that can make our Extension work better. The whirlwind that was last week packed in a good bit of action and excitement, and had me wiped out by the end of the week. Even so, I look forward to the event every year and hope you do as well.

In addition to the formal agenda, last week’s meetings involved a good bit of catching up with colleagues too. I was involved in a number of conversations with folks not part of the CD program. In these conversations, both ‘small but mighty’ and ‘bang for the buck’ were used by these individuals to describe the CD unit and its efforts. I find this positive feedback from our peers in Extension the ultimate compliment as well as a testament to all of your hard work. Kudos to you!

Once more, I would also like to congratulate and recognize the individuals listed below for their specific contributions and accomplishments in 2012. You represent CD well!

OSU Discovery Themes
If you recall, we briefly touched on aligning our work with the OSU Discovery Themes during our unit meeting on Tuesday morning. The Discovery Themes initiative, according to Provost Alutto, was ‘formally launched in October 2012….and may be the most ambitious academic effort ever undertaken at Ohio State.’ The three themes include:  Health & Wellness, Energy & Environment, and Food Production & Security. You can read more details about the initiative here. These themes align well with the FAES Signature Areas.

2013 CD Unit Quarterly Meeting Schedule
Finally, we’ll continue the quarterly face to face meetings from 2012 to help us carry forward our good work in 2013. To identify the 2013 CD Unit Quarterly Meeting dates I’d like to invite you to respond to an online poll by December 14.
