AD Update:

Extension Annual Conference Around the Corner

I hope by now you have already registered for the Extension Annual Conference and took advantage of the super ‘early bird’ registration rate. The two-day agenda covers most of December 4 & 5 and promises a variety of opportunities to build team, share and learn, and celebrate our accomplishments. To start the event we have an opportunity to gather prior to the hustle and bustle of the full conference environment. Please plan to attend our CD unit meeting on December 4 in 370 Kottman Hall from 10:00 to noon. You can park easily in the Ag Admin lot and walk across Woody Hayes Drive to Kottman Hall. After the ESP and OAEP Awards Luncheon in the 4-H Center from 1:00 to 2:45 and an Ohio JCEP meeting from 3:00 to 4:00, we have an hour set aside in the 4-H Center Board Room for our official NACDEP business. The following day offers poster and concurrent session presentations, an Administrative Update from Director Smith, and an awards luncheon where we will be honoring our Friend of CD and our Excellence in CD award winners. The keynote speaker is highly regarded for his work in Working with Generational Differences. I hope you are looking forward to these two days as much as I am. Look for more details on our CD unit meeting and NACDEP business meeting soon!

Migration and the Transition to Adulthood among Rural Youth WebEx - December 13:

Migration and the Transition to Adulthood among Rural Youth: How Leaving and Staying Affect Schooling, Work, and Idleness among Emerging Adults, will be presented by Dr. Anastasia Snyder via WebEx on December 13 starting at 1:00 p.m. This program has implications for all OSU Extension programming areas. Dr. Snyder’s research examines family demographic change and implications for family and child well-being, with an emphasis on rural families. Employing secondary data, this examines residential differences in changing family structure, new family formation patterns such as non-marital childbearing and cohabitation, and the implications of these for well-being. She also studies risk behaviors and the life course development of rural youth which includes an ongoing primary data collection project that examines educational, career, family and migration aspirations. The goal is to understand the plans rural youth have for their futures, how education, work and family aspirations and outcomes are associated with out-migration patterns, and how family, school and community contexts influence these outcomes.

The event is free and does not require registration; however, so that an estimate of participation can be made, please let them know you are planning to attend via this doodle poll.
