AD Update:

September CD Retreat Homework

We decided last January that we found it beneficial to come together face to face every few months to share, learn, and plan how we would work together and invest our resources. Our next opportunity to meet face to face is September 26-27 at the Fleming Falls Retreat Center at Camp Mowana near Mansfield (http://www.lomocamps.org/camps/mowana/facilities). There are 20 rooms available for our use. CD funds will cover the cost of your lodging (for double occupancy). If you would like to have your own room, please let Sandy know as soon as possible so she can start a list for single room reservations. (Please note that you will have to pay $50 from your own funds to cover the extra cost of a single room.) Once we know the number of folks attending, we will know how many single rooms are available and will assign them from the reservation list.

The formal agenda is being finalized and will be shared soon. In the meantime, there are some homework assignments you can begin:

  • Prepare your ‘elevator speech’… i.e., how would you introduce yourself and what you do in 60 seconds or less? (Okay, a 60 second elevator ride may also involve standing in line to get on the elevator and a break down or two as well).
  • Think about and narrow down your ‘best thing I ever did’ story….some little ‘nugget’ that may help others in their professional pursuits told in a 1-2 minute story. Win extra points by tying your ‘nugget’ back to the ‘Strengths’ learned at our January 2012 face to face meeting.
  • Reflect on the work you’ve done and then identify and describe your ‘most used program’… prepare to describe this program in a two-minute overview. Bring a short written summary (think ‘abstract’) of your ‘old reliable’ to earn extra points.
  • The above focus on who you are and programs specific to you. In terms of CD unit operations, what is the one most strategically smart thing (in your opinion) the CD unit could do to secure its future? Maybe it is a comprehensive marketing campaign? More attention paid to partnership development? Active pursuit of ‘other’ funding? After identifying this one thing, what are the ways or tactics we might use to achieve it?

Expect the agenda next week… and don’t let the dog get to this homework!
