AD Update:
Homework, homework!!
The February 6, 2012 edition of this update focused on advancing our larger unit goals, objectives, initiatives, etc. with quarterly face to face meetings, working in small groups, and contributing individually when relevant and appropriate. A key unit goal we have discussed previously is communication. There are currently at least three ways you can meaningfully contribute individually. You may recall seeing that we are updating our teams listing, ensuring our Web pages are up to date and complete, and collecting feature articles on BR&E, as well as other program highlights for our quarterly newsletter. If you haven’t forwarded your info to Sandy yet, here is what we need from you, ideally by the end of this week:
- Your team involvement . . . Please create and send a list of teams in which you are active. If the group is small, please include as many team member names as you can remember. If you were part of a team you know has disbanded, please send that info too. After we have a handle on our currently active teams, we will share the listing.
- Your web Bio . . . Please take a look at any of the following individual's biography pages under the CD Staff link at https://comdev.osu.edu/cd-staff: Bowen, Civittolo, Lloyd, Lucente, Merkowitz, Orlando, Nesbitt, Raison, and Romich. Compare your bio page to these to see what you may be missing from your page and please send your missing content to Sandy. Which is worse… an incomplete web page or an out of date web page?
- Your recent program highlights . . . In addition to feature stories on BR&E, the upcoming quarterly newsletter will include other program highlights, upcoming events, and relevant pictures too. Please send such items (for highlights, think 3-5 short paragraphs) so our stakeholders, partners, and clientele can see the breadth of our good work.
If you are all caught up on these items already, I thank you very much. Expect to see ‘homework’ related to our Program Retreat on September 26-27 in the next week or so!

OSU Leadership Center Offers 21st Century Leadership Series Starting August 15:
The Ohio State University Leadership Center is offering professional development opportunities August 15 through December 12 to those interested in increasing their leadership knowledge and skills. The 21st Century Leadership Series includes StrengthsFinder, DISCflexTM, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, and Spectrum Temperament Development, among others. New Environmental Professionals Network Launched:
A new free service of the School of Environment and Natural Resources, the Environmental Professionals Network, is now online. EPN is a community-driven effort seeking participation from private and public sector professionals in the broad range of environment and natural resources. Participants can access online services and are linked to professionals in a "community" who share their passion for our world, its environment, natural resources, people, and communities. SCHOLARLY / CREATIVE / OPPORTUNITIES
Ohio 4-H Volunteer Conference and Ohio 4-H Teen Conference Call for Proposals due August 31:
On Saturday, March 9, 2013 the Ohio 4-H Volunteer Conference (OVC) and Ohio 4-H Teen Conference (OTC) will be held simultaneously at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. All Extension Professionals are invited to share their expertise and submit proposals for this multi-disciplinary opportunity. Learning tracks with suggested topics have been identified for guidance and planning. Examples include:
- Effective 4-H Club - Building an effective team of club advisors
- Successful Communication Skills
- Workforce Preparation
- Developing Leadership Skills
The track/topic guidelines serve only as a guide, so do not hesitate to propose an idea that may not be listed. However, the planning committee still needs you to assign proposed topics to one of the identified tracks. Proposals must be submitted by August 31. REMINDERS / UPDATES / NEWS:
2012 Conflict of Interest Disclosures due August 24:
The University requires faculty and select research staff and students to complete an annual financial disclosure to comply with federal and state conflict of interest regulations, accreditation requirements, and faculty/staff conflict of interest policies. The 2012 COI process has been revised to comply with new Public Health Service regulations that require faculty, staff, and students to provide substantially more information about financial relationships with external entities. If you received an email on July 26, you are required to submit the disclosure by August 24. CFAES Mobile Computing Device Agreement due ASAP:
In June 2012, OSU Extension adopted the CFAES Mobile Computing Device Standard and Agreement, as endorsed by the CFAES Vice President's Cabinet and the CFAES Department Chairs. The purpose of the agreement is to define guidelines and procedures for connecting mobile computing devices (such as tablet computers, smartphones, and other devices with Wi-Fi or cellular connections) to CFAES and/or university applications and services for the performance of university business. The agreement applies to all CFAES and Extension faculty and staff (employees) who utilize university owned or personally owned mobile computing devices to access CFAES and/or university applications and services via wireless means for the performance of university business. If you are using a mobile computing device to connect to CFAES and/or university applications and services, please contact your I/T technician as soon as possible in order to complete and sign the agreement. A copy of the signed agreement will be kept in each employee's personnel folder. If you have questions about the agreement or the support of mobile computing devices, please contact your I/T technician directly.
Simplify Monthly eRequest for Mileage:
Rachel Crusey, accountant and our fiscal representative in the OSUE Business Office, suggests using the copy feature to simplify your monthly eRequest for mileage. The following process will reduce the procedure to a few steps:
- Once logged onto eRequest Home (http://erequest.osu.edu), click on 'Search.' In the 'Org' box enter the Org number that you use to submit mileage, and then click 'Search.'
- Click on the eRequest number of your most recent mileage request listed.
- Scroll to the bottom of the eRequest and click on 'Copy Request,' then click 'OK.' (Note that the copy has neither a PR number nor an uploaded mileage log.)
- Make the following changes to update your new request:
- Description: Change the month to correspond with the month of your new mileage log.
- Estimated Amount: Change amount to correspond with your new mileage log total.
- Attachment: Add (upload) your new mileage log.
- Chartfield Information: Change the Chartfield information to correspond with your new mileage log. Whether or not you are splitting chartfields, make sure the percentage adds up to 100% and the total adds up to the overall total in the estimated amount above.
- Click 'Submit.'
