AD Update:

Getting to Know Your Program Finances

A quick survey of our program fund balances at the end of FY12 indicates we are continuing to take seriously the need to engage in cost recovery and revenue generation efforts. Most folks have made such efforts a part of their work routine, and I applaud you for doing so. As our traditional funding sources continue to tighten, the need for ‘other’ funding continues to grow. And while these funds belong to OSU, our current environment affords you a great deal of discretion in how you choose to spend them (all expenditures must be for university business, of course!). If you have such program funds, I encourage you to take responsibility for understanding how they can be used, monitoring your balances, and planning ahead with project and/or annual budgets. (NOTE: When you request approval to spend these program funds, I will be monitoring more closely in FY13).

I also suggest you become more familiar with the business office tools and procedures for making deposits, as well as requesting expenditures from these funds. Learn your Chartfield info. Know your fund balances. Set realistic budgetary goals for the year. Rachel Crusey, the business office accountant assigned to CD, works up quarterly reports for folks in the unit with program funds. Thank her for her work, and let me know if you have questions or want help in working up a budget. It is a great time to get to know your program finances better!
