Earth is Our Home

July 30, 2025

Earth is Our Home is a video series by Thomas Blaine, Associate Professor with the Community Development Program at OSU Extension.  The series, which began in 2021, primarily addresses global climate change, how it has affected Earth in the past, the current status, and likely outcomes in the future.  You can learn all about earth’s climate engine, the differences between natural warming and the warming caused by humans.  Questions you may have about what caused the ice ages, extinction events, El Nino and La Nina – they are all addressed in Earth is Our Home.

We occasionally have diversions in the series to discuss other topics relating to human survival or topics about what is happening on the planet.  In 2022 for example, we did a 3 part series on the Ukraine Russian war, and discussed the existential threat posed by nuclear weapons.  In 2023 and 2024 we did special videos on the total solar eclipse that occurred in Ohio and more than a dozen other states in April 2024.

Most of the video run approximately a half hour, but some are 3 minute “shorts.”  The series is co-hosted by Patrick Dengel of OSU South Centers.  Come and enjoy the videos.  Learning about our planet, its history and likely future is fun and appropriate for all ages!  Extension is proud to make this available to the public.
