AD Update:
Supporting Extension CD Programs
About a month ago The Ohio State University officially kicked off its ‘But for Ohio State’ $2.5 billion fundraising campaign (click here for more info), ‘the largest fundraising endeavor in the university’s history.’ With online giving a donor can now pick from literally thousands of funds with a few mouse clicks. I am very pleased to report that two of these funds are affiliated with Extension Community Development. They can be found via the university’s online giving site, or you may want to make note of the two links below that will take you directly to our funds. Both have been in existence for some time (in fact, you may note a reference to CNRD in the Support fund description…that goes back 20+ years at least!). Aside from a small number of regular monthly contributions to our support fund, there has been little other activity. Little activity means that endowment principal has received the benefit of the reinvestment of annual endowment interest and this principal is now of sufficient size to help fund our new Excellence in Community Development Award.
In short, we have two fund types. With the Endowment fund (622250) the contributions go to principal only and cannot be tapped, only the interest they generate can be used to support CD programs (currently about $1250 per year). The Support fund (308100) is considered a ‘current use’ fund. Contributions made to this fund do not earn interest but they can be used at any time to support CD programs. For the sake of greater flexibility, University Development has suggested we encourage contributions to the Support fund. We’ll talk more on this when we meet December 4. Given that we have an opportunity for fund growth, we are looking for folks interested in helping to plan a modest ‘But for CD' campaign. If you would like to learn more, please let me know. In the meantime, I very much encourage you to add one or both of these links below to your e-mail signature line.
