AD Update:
Thanks much to Melinda and colleagues who hosted us at the Stone Lab facilities on Gibraltar Island last week. The day was ideal for being outdoors and learning more about how our Sea Grant colleagues are helping communities, businesses, and local leaders in the Lake Erie watershed capitalize on their natural assets. To see pictures of the day (courtesy of Melinda), check out the CD Facebook Chat page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/OSU-Extension-Community-Development/239984182708049#!/groups/OSUECDChat/.
We’ll spend a lot more time in planning, reporting, and discussion of priorities and goals when we meet for our fall retreat. We’ll be meeting just outside of Mansfield at the Fleming Falls Retreat Center at Camp Mowana (http://www.lomocamps.org/camps/mowana/facilities) on September 26 and 27. There are 20 rooms available for our use. CD funds will cover the cost of your lodging (for double occupancy). If you would like to have your own room, please let Sandy (odrumsky.1@osu.edu) know as soon as possible so she can start a list for single room reservations. (Please note that you will have to pay $50 from your own funds to cover the extra cost of a single room.) Once we know the number of folks attending, we will know how many single rooms are available and will assign them from the reservation list.
To help ensure the agenda includes items of importance to you, Rose, Chet, and Becky have prepared a short survey located at http://go.osu.edu/cdretreat. Becky has created a QR tag, in case you would like to take it on your smart phone (GO BECKY!).
Please take a moment to respond to the six open-ended questions, so that the committee can start planning activities and objectives with your thoughts in mind. Your response would be appreciated by Monday, July 9. Thank you!
SPSS Renewal - New Process:
If you have not renewed your SPSS software license as described in the June 11 issue, the process has changed. Your current license expired June 30, so please renew as soon as possible. Click here for the new instructions. You will need to call the IT Service Desk and speak to a representative that will take your information (instead of you completing the agreement form). They will give you a software request number to which you will refer in your eRequest. Once the eRequest is approved, the Office of the Chief Information Officer will email you an authorization code and instructions on how to download your software. If you have any questions, please contact Sandy (614-292-6232 orodrumsky.1@osu.edu).

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Harmful Algal Blooms in Lake Erie: 2012 Forecast - Free Webinar July 5:
As we learned last week, in 1969 Lake Erie was choked with harmful algal blooms (HABs), but by improving sewage treatment and agricultural practices, phosphorus inputs were reduced by almost 2/3 and Lake Erie became the Walleye Capital of the World. In the mid-90s dissolved phosphorus concentrations started to increase, HABs returned in 2002, and the size of the annual bloom has increased ever since. The webinar, led by regional and national experts, will explain NOAA's first seasonal harmful algal bloom forecast in the Great Lakes, the history of HABs in Lake Erie, and the impacts of HABs in the region. For more information about the topics to be discussed, click here. The webinar is free, but you must pre-register by Wednesday, July 4. To register, visit http://ohioseagrant.info/apps/machform/view.php?id=6. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with log-in information. Contact Jill Jentes Banicki (jentes.1@osu.edu) if you have questions.
