CD WEEKLY WIRE
May 14, 2012
AD Update:
CD Web Site Program Pages
Last week we discussed the new CD web pages and how you can help keep them current and noteworthy. After you address the simple things like checking your own biographical page and the Programs pages for accuracy, you can get into the mindset of forwarding the pertinent details for your ‘headline’ stories (both past and planned). Working together, I am hopeful that we can capture most all that is relevant and noteworthy. For example, if you send regular reports, we’ll try to glean content from those reports you send. We’ll also look forward to specific content you send (thanks much, Sarah Orlando, for the content you forwarded last week!).
Next, if there are programs you would like to have listed that are not part of the Programs pages, send a short description (see Programs pages for guidance) and we’ll get those posted. If you see your name listed next to something you no longer offer, again let us know and we’ll get it updated.
Finally, to comply with new C&T guidelines, existing web content (programs pages) is being migrated from ‘stand alone’ URLs to the comdev directory. If you have pages like these, use this opportunity to review, edit, revise and rebuild (if needed) your program(s) pages. Sandy will be posting the content that you identify for migration. And remember, URCHIN can help you identify what content is being viewed (and what is not and therefore suitable for removal). Revise remaining content to be more concise and/or readable, if necessary. Some of these programs pages are quite complex, so the process will take some time. However, C&T is requiring the migration sooner rather than later. If these programs pages apply to you, be thinking about your game plan and timeline. Call Sandy or me to discuss the details and for suggestions.
Ask an Expert Update
The April 23rd AD Update focused on eXtension and setting up your preferences so you could participate in the Ask an Expert function. Here’s an update from Jerry Thomas last Friday: “We have received 252 questions [over the past month], with a 50% increase in question volume over the period. This trend is expected to continue…and, Master Gardeners Volunteers are responding quicker than our Extension professionals.” It is time to become an active part of the eXtension team if you have not already!
Mark Your Calendars
A few dates for your calendar are June 27, September 26-27, and Dec 4-5. Sea Grant Extension folks are hosting our quarterly in-service at Stone Lab on June 27 (http://stonelab.osu.edu/about/). Our annual program retreat will be held September 26-27 (location TBD - if you are interested in serving on the planning committee, please contact me). Finally, we’ll hold a winter in-service on December 4 prior to the Extension Annual Conference to be held December 5 at the Ohio Union (same venue as last year).
